Profile
You
get very adept at understanding the needs of the various types of production
and adapting to changing filming techniques by trying things out and building
up a tremendous wealth of experience to draw on. I can use all of that on whatever production
I’m working on to deal with challenges, budgetary constraints and the
inevitable problems, and hopefully realise the director’s intentions. I don’t think my approach has changed much
over the years – it’s more a case of fine tuning and maximising the potential
of new equipment and appreciating different styles:

‘They (Westminster Abbey Press
Office) were very impressed and so were we with the excellent material Andrew
& crew managed to get for us in a very short time’
‘Stone
of destiny’ BBC Scotland. Director:
Eleanor Yule
‘I’ve just been watching the rough cut and it prompts me to write immediately
to thank you for some of the best rushes I’ve seen on ‘Songs of Praise’. Every shot was nicely lit, well composed, and
movements of both camera and lens were well controlled’.
Roger Hutchings BBC Songs
of Praise
I am well
aware that (it) is rather a difficult place….thank you for sailing through it
all and
providing us with some splendid pictures.
It made life so much more enjoyable to know that through it all I had
the backing of such a stalwart team….we survived and brought back such
excellent film thanks very much to you and I am much indebted to you’.
David Harrison BBC/Time Life ‘The Africans’
series
The MLS team at the seminar included their cameraman, Andrew, whose contribution to the finished product cannot be overestimated. During the lunch break delegates were able to talk to him about his particular contribution to the many DVDs that MLS have produced. He, too, like the director, interprets, gives visual re-enforcement of messages, and offers elements of contrast and shading.
